3 Key Advantages of Choosing Steel Stove over Cast Iron Stove for a Hassle-Free Camping

As compared to a cast iron stove, it would be much better to bring with you a steel stove for a better cooking experience while camping. A steel camping stove is easier to bring along,   it is easier to clean and maintain, and it has various types  to choose from.

Both cast iron and steel stoves do very well when it comes to performance.  They are both durable and are very good conductors of heat.    However, there are certain issues that make steel stoves better to bring during camping to make your trip a hassle-free and enjoyable one.  Here are the advantages of steel stoves over cast iron stoves:

Easier to bring along

Though both stoves can be compact, steel stoves are a lot more convenient to bring during camping because they are lightweight.  Cast iron stoves are naturally heavy, making them not so practical for camping, especially if you are planning to get a multiple burner camping stove and you need to do some hiking.  Steel stoves are also more portable as some types are foldable, thus reducing the bulk in your load.  Furthermore, steel-type stoves take lesser time to cool down than cast iron stoves, making them a more practical cooking partner when you are always on the move.

Easier to clean and maintain

The problem with cast iron stoves is that they tend to rust easily, especially when not properly cleaned and maintained.  It also takes longer to clean these stoves during camping as they require a special way to remove dirt from cooking.  Steel stoves, on the other hand, are easier to clean.  With grease and fingerprints easily making them dirty, you can simply wash them with warm water and dishwashing soap.  Wipe them dry and you’re ready to keep them back in your backpack.

Various types to choose from

Steel stoves offer a variety of stove types to choose from, unlike cast iron stoves that are usually plain and simple.  As you go searching for camping stoves, steel stoves are most commonly found in the market today in different assortments.  Sizes vary from compact single-burner steel stoves, to multiple burner stoves that can easily be folded.  Accessories also vary from plain stoves to those with grill or even coffee maker.  There are also more stove manufacturers offering steel-type stoves than cast iron stoves, thus giving you more options to choose from.

When choosing your steel stove for your camping trip, always make it a point to choose the best-priced stove, without sacrificing its quality.  You need to bring a camping stove that is also durable so as not to ruin an adventurous trip. Although, steel camping stoves have several advantages over cast iron camping stoves, it does not discount the fact that the latter can still contribute to an enjoyable camping experience.
