Cleaning your cast-iron camping grill is easy. All you have to do is to clean it while it is still warm, use warm/hot water for easier cleaning, use natural cleaning solutions, scrub it with mild abrasives, use soapy water to clean the burners, and season it with oil.
Camping grills have become a favorite to every camping trip because it makes excellent barbecues and mouth-watering smoky grilled food. The cast iron camping grills in particular have a good reputation to every camp grilling sessions for the fact that it cooks food faster because it conducts heat better than the others, it is nonstick, does not cause unusual ‘metal’ flavoring on the food, and it is very durable. We have to admit that from constant usage, sometimes rust and stain starts collecting on our grills which at times are very hard to remove. If you are constantly battling with this kind of problem, here are effective methods in cleaning your grill.
Clean grill while it is still warm
Accumulated food particles on the cooking surface actually take off easily when they are removed while the grill is still hot. Letting the grill cool only hardens the debris, allowing them to stick into the grills making it harder to remove. It is best to clean the grill immediately after cooking. Use scrapers when cleaning hot surfaces.
Use warm/hot water for easier cleaning
When the scraping is not as effective as mentioned above, you can damp the grill with warm/hot water to soften hard food particles then wipe it with clean cloth or towel.
Use natural cleaning solutions
Sometimes hot water alone won’t thoroughly get the stains off. Cleaning solutions in the market are too harsh for your grill thus you must opt for something that is natural and readily available at home. Hot water with white vinegar makes a good cleaning solution. With this, it is now easier to erase burnt food and stains.
Scrub with mild abrasives
Sometimes you need a little scrubbing to eliminate hard stains. Though there are aluminum scrubs available, be aware that they are a bit harsh to your cast-iron camping grill. It is recommended to use gentler abrasives such as baking soda or salt.
Use soapy water to clean the burners
When using a gas cast-iron camping grill, you must also need to clean the burners. They are located just underneath the grilling surface. You have to lift the grill to be able to clean them. Use soapy water and clean burners thoroughly. Clean burners make the grill more efficient when cooking.
Season with oil
Seasoning a cast-iron camping grill means maintaining its black-colored metal coating which prevents food from sticking on the cooking surface. This method also makes the grill look like its brand new. Spraying or layering some oil on the surface is the best way to do it.
Cleaning our camping grills in the right ways not only make it look like it is always brand new but it also extends its durability or quality. If we keep on doing this, we would probably be saving hundreds of dollars because we only have little chances of buying new ones.
