According to Wikipedia, Astrology is a group of systems, traditions, and beliefs which hold that the relative positions of celestial bodies and related details can provide information about personality, human affairs, and other terrestrial matters. The modern scientific community considers astrology a pseudoscience or superstition. Here are the reasons why:
No supporting evidence
There has been no proof that the position of planets could affect an inidividual's personality and relationship to others. Astrologers cannot present an evidence that certain planets like Mars will have effect on a person's profession or occupation.
No scientific methodology
For a certain theory to be considered fact, it must undergo several tests called scientific method. Scientists must also follow a scientific method. Wikipedia says scientific method refers to a body of techniques for investigating phenomena, acquiring new knowledge, or correcting and integrating previous knowledge. To be termed scientific, a method of inquiry must be based on gathering observable, empirical and measurable evidence subject to specific principles of reasoning. Therefore, Astrology must follow a scientific method for it to be considered science.
No related research has been given recognition
There have been a few attempts by astrologers to prove that Astrology has scientific significance but these researches have not been given any credit by the science community.
Astrologers are not considered scientists
Astrologers or astrologists are people who practice astrology. Since astrology is not part of science, astrologers therefore are not scientists. According to Wikipedia, the practice of astrology is largely unregulated. Certification is not required by legislation for an astrologer to offer his or her services.
Based on beliefs and not facts
Since astrology has no supporting evidence and does not follow a certain scientific method, theories could not be proven as facts. Astrology is based from tradition and superstition that positions and movements of planets directly influence a person's character.
There is nothing wrong with believing in zodiac sun signs and horoscopes. It is something we could do for fun because somehow knowing more of ourselves brings a certain interest and joy that we are better people and that we possess impressive abilities.
