7 Effective Ways to Treat Red and Irritated Skin

To treat red and irritated skin you should trace the possible causes of the irritation and avoid these in the future, wash your skin with a gentle cleanser, apply a cold compress, soak in a warm oatmeal bath, apply Aloe Vera gel, drink sufficient amounts of water, and apply Vitamin E on the skin.

There are many factors that can cause skin to become irritated. People who have sensitive skin are prone to having irritated skin. Argan oil skin irritation and allergic reactions to certain foods and cosmetics are fairly common causes of skin becoming red and inflamed. Treating irritated skin does not have to be difficult. In fact, there are some treatments which you can apply on your own. Here are some effective ways to treat red and irritated skin:

Trace and avoid the possible causes of irritation

The simplest and most basic solution to solving skin irritation is to identify what could be causing your skin to become irritated and avoid it. This will also help prevent skin irritation in the future. If the irritation is topical, it might be caused by creams, lotions, soaps or cosmetic products that you are presently applying over your skin. You should avoid using these items and find alternative products that will not cause similar effects. If you were previously exposed to the sun, then avoid direct sun exposure for the next couple of days until your skin returns to normal.

Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser

You will need to cleanse your skin and remove any traces of the substance that caused it to become irritated. Be sure to find a mild and gentle cleanser that is suitable for your skin that will not cause any further reaction.

Apply a cold compress

Cold pressure is effective in relieving redness and swelling, and will help soothe any burning sensation that you might feel. Wrap the icepack with a towel and use it to apply pressure on your skin, or if you don’t have an icepack available, you can soak a clean wash cloth on the cool water.

Soak in a warm oatmeal bath

Oatmeal is known to have properties that can soothe and calm irritated skin. Run a bath with lukewarm water, measure two cups of the oatmeal and add it into the warm water. Be sure to use tepid water and not hot water, as the latter will only dry out and aggravate your skin condition. Soak in the warm bath for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Apply Aloe Vera gel

Aloe Vera is well known for having healing properties on the skin. It is advisable to use natural aloe gel because it is free from fragrances and artificial ingredients. Apply the gel on the affected area.

Drink sufficient amounts of water

Dehydrated skin is prone to irritation. Skin is also more difficult to treat if it is dehydrated. Be sure to drink sufficient amounts of water daily, which is approximately 64 ounces.

Apply Vitamin E on the skin

Vitamin E is the key to having healthy skin and can also help solve many skin ailments. There are Vitamin E products such as oil or capsules which you can rub on your skin.

Always take proper care of your skin. Proper skincare should not be limited to using appropriate skin products, but also knowing what treatments to use in case your skin becomes irritated.
