These are the steps on how to build a toy train table: decide on the dimension of the table, prepare all the needed materials, cut and assemble, attach all the pieces together, and smooth and paint.
Toy trains have become a favorite toy and collectible to kids and even adults alike. Playing with them has also become a favorite pastime hobby. Some of the collectors even put them on tables to display them. Though you can buy these tables directly from stores, you can also choose to build them yourself. Just follow these easy instructions:
Step 1: Decide on the dimension of the table
Before you start sawing and hammering, you must first know the dimension of the table that you’re going to build. There are two things you need to consider in getting the perfect table size – the size of your train set and the area in which you’re going to place it. You must first measure the entire assembly of your train set. Your table should be the right size to fit all of it or you could also make it a bit larger if you’re still planning to add some decorations or an extra train track. You must also consider the space or the room in which you’re going to place your table. Take note of the locations of the windows and electrical outlets, and the sizes of the doors.
Step 2: Prepare all the needed materials
The next step you have to do is prepare all the needed materials. These would include hardwood for the table’s legs, laminated wood or cabinet-grade plywood for the table top, pencil or marker, sandpaper, hammer and nails or drill and screws, cutting materials, sealant, and some paint.
Step 3: Cut and assemble
Measure and mark the hardwood and laminated wood or plywood according to the desired size of the table. With a saw or any cutting machine, cut out the pieces carefully. Make sure all of the legs are of equal sizes. Start assembling the parts and put them in places where they should belong.
Step 4: Attach all the pieces together
Now that all the parts are assembled, you can now start attaching them to their rightful places. Attach each leg just below the four edges of the table. Make sure that they are evenly distributed to each side for balance when they are all attached together. Nail or screw them in place then put sealant on the corners of the connected areas and air dry for an hour or two.
Step 5: Smooth and paint
When sealant is totally dry, smooth the rough edges and uneven areas of the entire table with sandpaper then remove the dust when done. Cover the polished table with a few coatings of paint to make it look good.
Building your own table may not look as good as the ones sold in the market but it definitely saves you lots of money. On the other hand, it is fun to work with, and also ensures you that it is sturdy and you know for sure that it is made of durable materials.
