While in Morocco you can choose to visit Fes, Marrakech, Essaouira, Merzouga or Tangier.

Morocco is rich in history and culture. With its unique atmosphere, it’s not surprising that Morocco attracts many visitors. Its Tangier properties are a breathtaking example of how various cultures can still seamlessly blend with one another. Morocco is a thriving tourist destination, and there are many exciting places to go to in this North African country. Here are some of the places you can visit in Morocco.

Fes

Fes, or Fez, is the oldest imperial city in the country, and it is dubbed as the spiritual hub of Morocco. Fez was Morocco’s capital for at least 400 years, and it beautifully blends medieval world charm with modern life. Visitors will feel the distinctive atmosphere of Fez while admiring the sights of the city and walking through all of its 9,000 narrow streets. While in Fez you should not miss the old city of Fes El Bali. You can also check out the Tanneries which showcase Fez’s distinctive leather products.

Marrakech

Marrakech is an imperial city nestled at the foot of the Atlas Mountains. It is considered the cultural hub of Morocco. It also boasts of many unique spots. While at Marrakech, you can visit the Majorelle Gardens, a botanical garden with collections of rare plants and a museum devoted to Islam art. If you prefer a busier atmosphere, you can jump on to Djemma el Fna at the heart of the city. Djemma el Fna is the central square of the old city where visitors can get refreshments, souvenirs and enjoy exotic entertainments like snake charming, music and juggling.

Essaouira

Essaouira will not disappoint beach lovers and people who simply want to escape from the busyness and activities of the big cities. In the 1960’s, music icons Bob Marley and Jimi Hendrix were common visitors in the beaches of this coastal town. Visitors of Essaouira will also love a leisurely stroll through the ramparts and relish a more relaxed shopping experience at the souks.

Merzouga

The desert town of Merzouga affords visitors a spectacular view of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. These magnificent dunes are the highest in Morocco and the sunrise over them is also another spectacle you shouldn’t miss. Merzouga is also a great place to go on a camel trek to explore the desert and its wildlife. During springtime, a lake that forms close to Merzouga attracts flocks of pink flamingos.

Tangier

Artists, writers and poets have always romanticized Tangier, and upon experiencing this lovely city, you will see why. Tangier is a colorful mixing pot of European and African influences and is considered by many as the gateway to Africa. While visiting this port city, you can drop by Place de France. Place de France is the heart of the ville nouvelle and is a great place to relax and savor the sea views. You should also visit the Kasbah which is home to the 17th century palace of the old Sultan.
