Deciding on groomsmen attire may sound to be an easy task, but if you want to make an extraordinary wedding, you may want to think again. Here are some important factors to consider in choosing the best groomsmen attire:
Match your groomsmen attire with the formality of your wedding
Weddings usually come in strictly formal, semi-formal, and casual settings, which dictate different dress codes. The whole entourage should be coordinated with the formality of your wedding. If you are planning to have a formal wedding, your groomsmen can wear all-black attire. They can wear a black tailcoat jacket, black waist coat, black trousers, and black bow tie. All-white attire may also be worn in a formal wedding during warmer months. In a semi-formal wedding, wherein your groom wears a tuxedo, your groomsmen should do, too, with a matching neck or bow tie. In casual wedding ceremonies, your groomsmen can wear sports jacket, vests, or simply long sleeves.
Consider the venue of your wedding ceremony
There are three popular wedding styles that are determined by the venues, which also require different dress codes. These are church, beach, and garden weddings.
- Church wedding. If you are planning to have a church wedding, which is usually formal or semi-formal, you may stick to the traditional wedding attire for groomsmen. In a semi-formal setting, you may enhance their attire by differentiating the color of their neckties to distinguish them from the groom and the other members of the entourage. Always remember that you need to be appropriately and decently dressed in the church.
- Beach wedding. In a beach wedding, the setting is usually semi-formal to casual. In a semi-formal beach wedding, you can let your groomsmen wear light-colored suits, instead of the usual black tuxedo, in order to match with the venue. Sports coat will also do, which are lighter and more convenient to bring and wear, especially if the venue is out of town. You may also consider minimizing the use of ties since you expect the beach to be very windy unlike in the church. For casual beach weddings, Hawaiian polo and light-colored shorts or pants are popular styles. Consider having the same design for all the groomsmen to distinguish the roles of your entourage. They can also wear plain white long sleeves with matching khaki pants.
- Garden wedding. If you want a garden wedding, your groomsmen can wear light-colored suits or a navy suit with light-colored undershirt. They may wear cool-colored ties or no tie at all. An example of a great attire is a navy suit with light green shirt and dark green tie or no tie but with green handkerchief in their suit's pockets.
Match the groomsmen attire with your theme and motif
Your theme and motif are also an important factors to consider to choosing the best attire for your groomsmen. This is where the importance of their attire's colors and their accessories come in. The color of boutonnieres, neck ties and theme of accessories should match your motiff and your theme for a harmonious setting. For example, let them wear purple-colored ties with matching purple cuff links, which you may give as groomsmen gifts during your dinner rehearsal.
Bring out your creativity
For a more unique touch, put some style in your groomsmen attire without losing the sanctity and decency of your wedding. You can modify traditional wedding attires such as letting your groomsmen wear different colors of long sleeves each or all white long sleeves but different neckties that still match your motif. You may also let your groomsmen wear suspenders over their white long sleeves or let them wear vests instead of suits.
Just get creative yet as appropriate as you can in choosing your groomsmen attire. As you choose their best outfit, do not forget to give them something that will look great on them and are comfortable, too. They deserve to enjoy your wedding as much as you do.
